Things to Do in Baton Rouge
You'll be surrounded by an inordinate number of things to do when you visit Baton Rouge. Explore the region's past by touring two 18th century plantation homes. Sitting on stunning landscaped grounds, The Myrtles features a gorgeous porch with an inside that is complete with crystal chandeliers and period furniture. Magnolia Mound, which is one of the oldest wooden structures in Louisiana, is known for its French Creole design and colorful gardens. Nature lovers will want to spend quality time at the Bluebonnet Swamp Nature Center where various creatures reside, such as turtles, alligators, foxes, and birds. Incredible scenery can be enjoyed at Hilltop Arboretum on the Louisiana State University campus. Covering 14 acres, the arboretum boasts old oak trees, bamboo, magnolias, and wildflowers along with walking trails.

Interesting museums are in abundance as well. The Louisiana Art and Science Museum features classic artwork and interactive exhibits for kids on subjects as varied as science and ancient Egypt. Over at the LSU Museum of Natural Science, you'll enjoy display upon display of native wildlife, everything from mammals to reptiles. In addition, there are archeological and anthropological collections. Staying with the wildlife theme, over 1,800 animals from around the world, like giraffes, zebras, elephants, otters, and parrots, can be experienced at the Baton Rouge Zoo. Excitement of another kind can be found on the Belle of Baton Rouge. This three-deck riverboat on the Mississippi River is home to gaming action galore, including roulette, blackjack, mini-baccarat, and craps.
